JOHANNESBURG: Ms Grootboom paid her last gratitude on the show to many South Africans yesterday evening on SABC 19h30 IINDABA News.
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)’s veteran news anchor, Ms Noxolo Grootboom retires after 37 years since she perfected and delivered a piece of phenomenal news for IsiXhosa speaking people.
Ms Grootboom, who hails from the Eastern Cape and began her career as a Typist at SABC in the early 80s. With no form of experience in the field, Ms Grootboom was given an opportunity to become the IsiXhosa News Anchor, an opportunity she grew fond of and perfected the news bulletin for almost four decades.
The legendary is known for her best sign-off, “Ndinithanda nonke emakhaya” which translates, “I love you all at home”. She has covered South Africa’s biggest events such as the passing of the former leader of the South African Communist Party’s leader, Mr Chris Hani and the country’s first democratically elected leader, Mr Nelson Mandela.
She is also known for embracing her IsiXhosa culture and name “Noxolo”, given by her grandmother which means “Mother of Peace”.
Noxolo has followed her name so well and remains the most humble legendary woman, a peace maker, full of love for her fans and South Africa at large.
Mzansi poured out their love to the veteran and thanked her for the remarkable work she has done over the years. Ms Grootboom paid her last gratitude on the show to many South Africans, covering her last TV news bulletin at 7 pm, on 30 March 2021.
