JOHANNESBURG: Ramokgopa made the announcement at a media briefing in Johannesburg on Monday.

The Gauteng Gambling Board’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Karabo Mbele, has been dismissed with immediate effect following the findings of a final forensic investigation report.

Gauteng Economic Development MEC Vuyiswa Ramokgopa announced that the report directly implicates Mbele in a series of serious transgressions, including alleged interference in funding adjudication processes, governance failures, and compliance breaches. Ramokgopa made the announcement at a media briefing in Johannesburg on Monday.

Among the specific allegations against Mbele are the approval of funding before the required governance procedures were finalised, as well as the authorisation of payments without supporting documentation. She also faces accusations of failing to meet his compliance and oversight obligations.

In addition to the CEO’s dismissal, the Board’s Chief Financial Officer, Oscar Maripane, has been suspended pending the outcome of an internal disciplinary process.

MEC Ramokgopa stated that the decisive action was necessary to restore stability, accountability, and good governance at the institution.
