CAIRO: AL Ahly head coach suffered a shock defeat against El Geish in the 2020/21 Egyptian Super Cup on Tuesday evening.
In the run for a sixth trophy with the Egyptian Red Devils, Pitso Mosimane on his clash with El Geish on Tuesday evening has suffered a 3-2 loss on penalties in an encounter that had ended in a 0-0 draw at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
A few hours later the club’s management revealed a 300K Egyptian Pounds (R280 000) fine will be imposed after the disappointing performance in the Egyptian Super Cup on Tuesday.
“Mahmoud El-Khatib, Al Ahly’s president, decided to impose a 300k fine on Al Ahly players, director of football and the coaching staff after the disappointing performance in the Egyptian Super Cup on Tuesday, despite the great support that the team receives to achieve titles and meet the expectations of the fans.
“Also, the administrative staff and the medical staff will be subjected to a fine that is relative to their salaries,” said Al Ahly management in the statement.
Since joining the club in October 2020, Mosimane has won two Champions League titles, Caf Super Cup, Egyptian Cup and Egyptian Super Cup as the Egyptian Red Devils were looking forward to bagging their 12th time record in the Egyptian Super Cup.
Although the decision by El Khatib came as a big surprise for many football fans around the world, some fans feel this is a great decision to make players ‘know that they are at work and not paid to lose’.
