JOHANNESBURG: The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in the Eastern Cape has hit back at Mr Mbalula.
Newly elected ANCYL secretary in the Eastern Cape, Mr Bongani Mani has penned his letter to ANC Secretary General, Mr Fikile Mbalula accusing him of excessive interference in the affairs of the structure’s business.
The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in the Eastern Cape has hit back at Mr Mbalula – calling his letter on its recent conference unwarranted, without merit and intrusive.
Mr Mbalula told the province he did not recognise the newly-elected top five – which was elected unopposed on Monday evening.
There’s been an outcry following Mr Mbalula’s letter saying he did not authorise the province from going ahead with its conference.
Members of the ANCYL are already fighting for their autonomy – just hours before they are due to battle it out for leadership positions in their party. This is reflected in a four-page letter from the newly elected Eastern Cape leadership collective to Mr Mbalula.
In it the young leaders defend their right to deviate from a set road map, arguing that there’s no constitutional mandate to follow it to the letter.
The leaguers also criticise Mr Mbalula for failing to respond to countless requests for the national audit team to assist with conference preparation.
Mr Mbalula’s concerns that the league’s conference could be subject to a challenge are also dismissed. He instead is accused of unwarranted excessive intrusion.
The league is set to kick off its conference on Friday.
