CAPE TOWN: ANCYL Coordinator and NYDA Board Chairperson, Ms Luwaca has been suspended by the PGC.

Fresh from the African National Congress (ANC) provincial conference, the youth league has suspended Ms Asanda Luwaca over allegations of corruption, forgery and fraud. The allegations are contained in a statement issued by the provincial congress preparatory committee.

In a statement, the PCPC alleged that Ms Luwaca invited regions to the PGC which is “convened against constitutional prerequisits(sp) and without consulting the PCGC.”

After being aware of such, the PCPC then held a meeting where they were made aware of Ms Luwaca’s abhorrent behaviour where it is alleged that she uses the NYDA funds to pay for service providers for meetings.

According to the statement, “the meeting was subsequently made aware of serious allegations of corruption, forgery and fraud levelled against the coordinator working with other comrades in the region.”

“The meeting therefore resolved that Comrade Asanda Luwaca should Step Aside and her membership immediately suspended. The Provincial Convener has been tasked to communicate the decision to Comrade Asanda and asked the Disciplinary Committee to immediately instigate disciplinary procedures and ensure fairness in the process,” the statement reads.

Speaking to the Republic Mail, the Western Cape PCPC spokesperson, Mr Mesuli Kama said Ms Luwaca has been corrupting the branches of the ANCYL towards the national congress, issuing invitation letters to regions to attend the PGC in Beaufort West unilaterally without consulting the PCPC, we view those allegations as serious.”

“She also submitted membership packs to Luthuli House which had stamps that are not from the bank, we view that as a forgery,” Mr Kama said.

“It is also alleged that she has used NYDA funds to pay for membership of the ANCYL members in the province and travelling expenses for certain individuals who were helping her. We intend to write to Scopa for them to institute an investigation against the misuse of public funds,” he said.

An attempt to reach Ms Luwaca was unsuccessful.
