MANCHESTER: United recently suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth at home.

Manchester United’s European dreams are hanging by a thread as Bayern Munich, comes knocking at Old Trafford, later this evening. The Red Devils’ disastrous UEFA Champions League campaign could end tonight if they fail to beat six-time European champions Bayern, in the final round of Group A.

United sit at the bottom of Group A, having only won once in five group matches, and their porous defence is not helping matters as they have let in 14 goals in the group stages thus far. Erik Ten Hag’s side needs a victory against Bayern and another result to go their way to avoid early elimination in the Champions League.

The equation for Man United is simple, win against Bayern and hope Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen play a draw. If United draw, and there’s a winner in the other fixture, Ten Hag and his charges would lick their wounds in the Europa League.

Under-fire United head coach speaking ahead of make or break fixture, told members of the media that his side can beat any opponent and that their home ground is not nice for visitors.

“Old Trafford is not a nice place to come for an opponent. As long as I am here, we are here together, we have to energise them,” said Ten Hag. Although those are fighting words from the Dutchman, United recently suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth at home in an English Premier League (EPL) match.

It will take more than words to intimidate a Bayern side that hasn’t lost a group-stage match in six years. However, if there was a chance for United to get the better of Thomas Tuchel’s side is now as they were brought down to earth themselves over the weekend in a 5-1 trashing by Eintracht Frankfurt.

As things stand United have collected four points and bottom of the group, Bayern have already qualified for the knockout stages. Meanwhile, Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen both on five points have plenty to play for in the other fixture, playing simultaneously with Bayern against United.
