LONDON: The 22-year-old had previously been linked with Liverpool, but has eventually signed by Leicester.
It was reported last week by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano that Patson Daka was on the cusp of joining Leicester City in a deal worth £25million.
The 22-year-old had previously been linked with Liverpool who are expected to sign at least one new attacker this summer, and his record of 34 goals across all competitions last season highlighted him as a realistic and appealing target.
Like Daka, Malen is another young exciting forward who had a standout campaign last time out. He’s currently competing at Euro 2020 with the Netherlands alongside former Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum.
However, Romano has confirmed that Daka has been signed by Leicester City on Tuesday morning.
Daka on the other hand plays exclusively through the middle, meaning he benefited on average from things like more touches inside the penalty area last season – 6.78 per 90 compared to 5.98 per 90. This inevitably led to more shots on average for the Zambian international too.
Yet Malen’s standout goal return highlights he’s still just as dangerous in and around the penalty area, and the 22-year-old also provides a much greater attacking influence for his side in other areas due to his ability to come deeper or collect the ball in wider areas.
The PSV forward finished last season with higher averages than Daka in terms of both dribbles and progressive runs.
