EMPANGENI: Mzimela’s continuation happened after King Misizulu had met with Amakhosi in Ulundi early this month.

The feud over the appointment of the Ingonyama Trust Board between Zulu King Masizulu KaZwelithini and the Prime Minister of the Zulu Nation, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi escalated on Friday. This comes after Buthelezi called a meeting with Amakhosi in the province of KwaZulu-Natal where he lamented the appointment of the board of Ingonyama Trust.

During the meeting – which King Misizulu endorsed – Buthelezi detailed how the appointment of the board unfolded without his involvement.

“King Misuzulu is aware of the meeting with Amakhosi and what I am going to raise and I have the right to convene the meeting with Amakhosi and have done so in the past,” Buthelezi said.

He detailed the history of how Ingonyama Trust started during the early 90s where he claimed his party, Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), “it was the IFP that took a stand on behalf of the Zulu monarch and Amakhosi.”

Buthelezi said the new chairperson of the Ingonyama Trust Board, Inkosi Thanduyise Mzimela, wanted his nomination to be rescinded because he cannot lead the entity. However, Inkosi Mzimela continued with his work even after King Misuzulu has said he has withdrawn his nomination to chair the Ingonyama Trust Board, it became clear that the King was misleading me or had been misleading the nation.

Inkosi Mzimela’s continuation happened after King Misizulu had met with, Buthelezi alleges, Amakhosi in Ulundi early this month. The meeting followed after the king had a meeting with ANC leaders. It was during that meeting that it was decided that KZN COGTA MEC, Bongi Sithole-Moloi should also be present – an unprecedented, according to Buthelezi.

After it became clear that Inkosi Mzimela had no legal background to administer the affairs of the trust, King Misuzulu privately met with Advocate Linda Zama, a legal guru from the KZN Office of the Premier who is also an activist of the ANC.

“I find it difficult to continue serving as the traditional prime minister under King Misuzulu who is refusing to protect the land of the kingdom held by Ingonyama Trust. I am asking for advice on the way forward,” Buthelezi said.
