JOHANNESBURG: Reed Exhibitions Africa (RX Africa) has on Monday announced it will be closing down TicketPro Dome for good, due to Covid19 devastations.
With a ‘heavy heart’ the board (RX Africa) announced that it will be closing TicketPro Dome for good due to related Covid19 restrictions which found the entertainment venue hit the hardest.
TicketPro Dome, one of the largest South Africa’s multi-purpose events, hospitality and entertainment venues, is a well-known destination choice for local, international music and comedy shows established in 1998.
In over two decades of service, the Dome has hosted top musicians from across the globe such as Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Lauren Hill, Pharrell Williams, Celine Dion and more. With the capacity of approximately 20 000 seats, South African rapper Cassper Nyovest was the first artist to sell out with #FillUpTheDome in 2015.
Carol Weaving, Managing Director of Reed Exhibition Africa, said that the closure of the Dome is extremely disappointing and heartbreaking for the industry as it had to be sold. The board was not able to convince the Dome owners, Sasol Pension Fund, which then led to a force majeure.
“The Ticketpro Dome has been home to many international concerts and events in South Africa, and this will undoubtedly leave a huge void. The constant changes and severity of the Covid-19 restrictions have wreaked havoc amongst our stakeholders and across the supply chain,” said Ms Weaving in the statement
The TicketPro Dome has now been sold by the owners, Sasol Pension Fund, to a third party that does not operate in the event space according to RX Africa.
“It is with a heavy heart that RX Venue Management today announces that after 20 years of being the management company of South Africa’s largest multipurpose indoor arena, the Ticketpro Dome has now been sold by the owners, Sasol Pension Fund.
“This is a further devastating blow for the exhibitions, events and entertainment industry who have undoubtedly been the hardest hit during the COVID pandemic,” said RX Venue Management in the statement
Weaving concluded by thanking all customers, suppliers and partners for their support over the past 20 years.
