VALENCIA: Racism is normal in La Liga according to Real Madrid forward Vini Jr.

Brazilian and Real Madrid forward Vinícius José Paixão de Oliveira Júnior commonly known as Vini Jr, has unleashed a scathing attack on LaLiga and Spain, labelling both the league and the country as racist. Vini Jr suffered racial abuse from Valencia fans during Sunday’s league game. The game was stopped to warn the fans against the racial abuse of Vini Jr.

Eventually, the forward was sent off during regulation time after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) had reviewed his violent conduct during a scuffle between Madrid and Valencia players. He shoved Hugo Duro in the face.

The forward has been a victim of prolonged racial attacks by fans in La Liga since moving to Spain from Flamengo in 2018. Post the match, Vini Jr took to Twitter to vent his anger on both La Liga and Spain, indicating that it was not the first time he had suffered racial abuse.

“Racism is normal in La Liga. The competition thinks it’s normal, the Federation does too and the opponents encourage it. I’m sorry. The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano and Messi today belongs to Racist,” he tweeted.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelloti also took to Twitter to condemn the incident and call for action against racism.

He tweeted, “Today has been a sad day at Mestalla, where a group of fans have shown their worst version. It is time to stop talking and act forcefully. Racism cannot have a place in football or I’m society. NO TO RACISM,”

La Liga has confirmed that it is investigating the incident. “Given the incidents that occurred at Valencia vs Real Madrid in Mestalla, LaLiga has requested the available images to investigate what happened. LaLiga will take pertinent action if there is a hate crime,” read its statement.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid lost the game by 1-0.  The loss means that it remains in third place. Valencia, on the other hand, is now five spots away from the relegation zone, with three matches left in the season.
