DURBAN: The Zulu traditional prime minister is currently in ICU after being in hospital for almost a week.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has conveyed his well wishes to Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi. The Zulu traditional prime minister is currently in ICU after being in hospital for almost a week.
The Buthelezi family said the senior prince’s situation had not improved. Mr Ramaphosa said the Buthelezi family had briefed him about the senior stateman’s health. The president was informed that Mr Buthelezi was now in the intensive care unit.
Mr Ramaphosa has wished the Zulu traditional prime minister a speedy recovery. While the two belong to two different political parties, they appeared to share a cordial relationship.
It was also Mr Ramaphosa’s presidency that recognised King Misuzulu in terms of the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act.
Family spokesperson, Doctor Bhekuyise Ngqengelele Buthelezi, “He has since developed a complication and therefore remains in hospital at this stage to receive the necessary care. The duration of his hospital stay will depend on how his body can recover from the complication.
“On behalf of uMntwana wakwaPhindangene and the family, we wish to convey [our] deepest appreciation for the many prayers, messages of support, well wishes and love that have been received. We remain confident that he is receiving the appropriate medical care,” he said.
