CACADU: Seven people have been killed in two separate mob justice attacks, last night in the eastern cape.

Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana Eastern Cape police spokesperson says that these incidents happened last night at Lady Frere in the Eastern Cape.

They received a call that four young men in their 20’s were being burned alive in an open field in that area. Police rushed to the scene and found the deceased lying on the ground. A few meters from that place in a nearby forest two bodies were found hanging from the tree.

One of the victims who have escaped from the second incident was rushed to hospital but died this morning after succumbing to injuries. The reason behind these deaths is not yet known and police are still investigating.

It is not clear if these two incidents are linked or they are two separate incidences. No arrests have been made and police are asking for anyone with information to please come forward.

Police spokesperson asks community members to refrain from mob justice, when a crime is committed it is the work of the police, not the people.

He says the motive for the murders of the men who are aged between 21 and 27 is not known at this stage and no arrests have yet been made.

Police have activated a 72-hour action plan to bring the killers to book.
