JOHANNESBURG: He was hospitalised last week, following complications related to the illness.
Johannesburg Mayor, Mr Geoff Makhubo, has been taken to hospital with COVID-19 complications after he tested positive in late June.
The City’s spokesperson Mr Mlimandlela Ndamase said in a statement on Saturday that [Mr] Makhubo would remain in hospital “until his medical team is satisfied [with] his recovery”.
“Gauteng and indeed Johannesburg are officially in a third wave and residents are urged to take the necessary non-medical precautions seriously and to ensure they wear masks, maintain social distance and limit movement in compliance with the Level-3 regulations currently in place”, wrote Mr Mlimandlela Ndamase.
Mr Makhubo went into self-quarantine on 20 June, during which time he committed to continue monitoring and providing guidance on work being carried out to contain and manage the spread of Covid-19 in Johannesburg.
