POLOKWANE: SuperSport United had six shots, three of which were on target.
A section of Kaizer Chiefs fans once again expressed their anger towards the club and coach Molefi Ntseki through violent means after the team had suffered a 1-0 loss against SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane, yesterday. They chanted: “Ntseki must go!” The coach had to be escorted out of the field by the security personnel and the South African Police Services (SAPS).
Amakhosi’s leadership tried to appeal to their fans to cease the mayhem, but their pleas fell on deaf ears as the fans were having none of it. The Soweto club had more chances and shots at goal, but only one of their 13 attempts was on target. In contrast, SuperSport United had six shots, three of which were on target.
Despite their superior 67% ball possession, the Chiefs did not make life hard for SuperSport as Ntseki’s men lacked both a creative spark and a killer instinct. An early goal by former Pirates striker Terrance Dzvukamanja was enough for Matsatsantsa to take all the points on offer, increasing their tally to 13 points, which put them in the third position in the league.
Chiefs, on the other hand, have collected eight points after seven matches. Having won two, drawn two and lost three matches, they find themselves in the eighth position on the league table. The former Bafana Bafana coach relived the incident that occurred at Mbombela Stadium last month when he was pelted with objects after the team had lost to TS Galaxy by the same score-line in a league match.
The under-pressure Ntseki, who has been tasked with reclaiming the club’s glory days, has an opportunity to win favour with the fans on Saturday as the Glamour boys are set to travel to Tshwane, where they will play DSTV Premiership defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the MTN 8 semi-finals.
The two giants played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg at the FNB Stadium, Soweto, in the first week of September. The away goal rule the advantage is with the Brazilians.
