WASHINGTON: After a 27 years long run on the online retailing site that made him the most richest man, Mr Bezos leaves office.
Amazon’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder Jeff Bezos (57) has officially announced his step-aside from being the chief executive officer and sets to spend more of his time on his Spaceship Company and Climate Change Activism.
The change of leadership went into effect on Monday 05, July 2021 where Mr Andrew R. Jassy, Head of Amazon’s cloud-computing business, took over as CEO. According to reports Mr Bezos will remain involved in the company as executive chairman, focusing on new products and ‘early initiatives’.
Having founded Amazon in 1994, Mr Bezos now ranks as the world’s richest man, according to Forbes he is said to have a net worth estimated at nearly $202 billion.
Mr Jassy now president and CEO of Amazon, he joined the company in 1997, after graduating from Harvard. The retailing giant generates $386 billion in annual revenue.
As he steps away from Amazon’s day-to-day full-time control, Mr Bezos has opened more time for his Blue Origin (Space Company) a private space venture he created in 2000.
On a statement issued in May, Mr Bezos alongside crewmates is scheduled to take the first crewed flight from Blue Origin’s New Shepard suborbital Spaceship in Texas (USA). The long awaited venture is set to take place in 20, July on the 52nd anniversary of Apollo Moon Landing.
