MTHATHA: Department of Correctional Services (DCS) area Commissioner of Wellington prison hospitalized.

John Msimango and daughter battle for their lives while wife and two children succumbed to death after a house fire.

The Department of Correctional Services in Mthatha is left devastated after a fire broke out on Tuesday night at 21h00 [8, June 2021] at the Commissioner’s house and his wife and two children did not survive the inferno.

According to Singabakho Nxumalo, the DCS spokesperson, the fire department did respond to extinguish the flames but sadly three had already succumbed to death.

“Only the area Commissioner and youngest daughter managed to escape through the window. The cause of the fire is not yet known at this stage and an investigation will ensue as the South African Police Services and fire specialists are already on site.

“Area Commissioner and his daughter are currently in hospital and trauma counselling will be availed to staff members. This is a devastating incident for the department and our sincere condolences go to the Msimango family,” Nxumalo added.
