HARARE: Former AmaZulu coach Joey Antipas is set for a new appointment at his Zimbabwean club, Chicken Inn, reports.

Joey Antipas has been the Chicken Inn head coach since 2019, following his brief stint with DStv Premiership side Usuthu. The veteran gaffer will soon assume the technical director post at the Bulawayo-based club.

He will be succeeded by Prince Matore, who has been the assistant coach, with Farai Tawachera joining the technical team as the assistant coach.

“We are grateful for his service, but at the same time, we feel he will do better as a technical director while we elevate coach Matore [Prince],” a source is reported to have said.

“As a club, we have new targets hence the re-deployment of duties. It’s going to be an exciting season for us, we are preparing, and we are ready to compete.”

The CAF B coaching badge holder is a revered figure at the Bulawayo side, having helped them win their only Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title in 2015.

He won the title with a squad that was headlined by former Kaizer Chiefs trio of Teenage Hadebe, Edmore Chirambadare and Mitchell Katsvairo.

Former Golden Arrows anchorman Danny Phiri was also part of the championship-winning team, which also faced Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2016 edition of the CAF Champions league.

Previously, Antipas had won the Zimbabwean league title with the now-defunct Motor Action back in 2010.

Antipas was also hired by AmaZulu, but he had a brief and forgettable stint that lasted less than a year between 2016 and 2017.

Last season, Antipas helped the Gamecocks, as Chicken Inn are affectionately known, end the season in second position.

So far, the club has signed one of the country’s finest prospects, Calum English Brown, from WhaWha, who were relegated.

They also parted ways with two senior players, Brett Amidu and Malvin Gaki. Amidu has already joined Manica Diamonds.
