CASABLANCA: The former Maritzburg United coach has been offered a two-year deal, which will see him link up with Zinnbauer for the third time.
Fadlu Davids has reportedly joined former Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer, who is now in charge of Raja Club Athletic, commonly known as Raja Casablanca, which plays in the Botola Pro 1, the Moroccan Premier League. He would serve as Zinnbauer’s assistant coach.
Davids’ agent had confirmed the news to a local news outlet that Raja Casablanca and his client were in talks that could see the former Bucs’ assistant coach join the Moroccan club’s technical team.
“I can confirm that we are in advanced discussions with Raja Casablanca for the services of our clients Fadlu Davids, Mueez Kajee and Darian Wilken,” said Rasthoem Simons.
The former Maritzburg United coach has been offered a two-year deal, which will see him link up with Zinnbauer for the third time. The former Buccaneers had a brief stint at Lokomotiv Moscow in the Russian Premier League.
In the middle of the 2022/23 DSTV Premiership season, The Team of Choice roped in Davids with the hope of saving it from a looming relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, also known as the National First Division (NFD). However, he could only save it from automatic relegation, as the Midlands-based club had finished in the 15th position, thus qualifying for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) promotional playoffs.
United was subsequently relegated following a goalless draw against Cape Town Spurs, who finished first while United finished second in the playoff tournament. Hence, Maritzburg United freed Davids and his technical team from their contracts.
Davids’ move to Morocco is yet another huge step in his coaching career. As a developing coach, he is gaining more experience.
Interestingly, he will cross paths with his brother Maahier Davids, who serves as Pitso Mosimane’s assistant at Al Wahda Football Club, which plays in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Pro League, in the Arab Club Champions Cup, set for August 2023.
