SEVILLE: Ramos left Sevilla 18 years ago to join Real Madrid.
Spanish Legend Sergio Ramos has completed a fairy-tale return to his childhood club, where it all began for him, Sevilla, on a season-long deal with an option to extend for another season.
Ramos, who has been tight-lipped about his next career move, might have been lured by the charm of returning home rather than going to either Saudi Arabia or Major League Soccer (MLS) in North America, where the Barcelona legend Lionel Messi is plying his trade.
The Real Madrid great, who won four UEFA Champions League trophies with Los Blancos, left Paris Saint Germain (PSG) at the end of the 2022/23 season as he did not renew his two-year deal when it expired.
The defender, who spent two seasons with Sevilla’s senior team following his graduation from its academy and made 49 appearances, has apparently snubbed big money move to Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
He was on the radar of Al-Ittihad, who have already snatched his former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema. In doing so, he resisted the wave set by his other former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo that has swept all over Europe, as prominent names ditched Europe for the Saudi Professional League (SPL).
Ramos left Sevilla 18 years ago to join Madrid, where he not only made a name for himself as a club legend but also won everything in his 16-year spell with the Galacticos. He has done it all in football.
In addition to the UEFA Champions League, he has won La Liga, Ligue 1, the FIFA Club World Cup and the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Spain.
