MANCHESTER: Manchester City reclaimed the Premier League title for the fifth time this season at Etihad Stadium.
With years of dominance since the 2011/12 season, City has been crowned Premier League Champions. Despite their failure to maintaining a consecutive championship in the PL 2019/20 season saw Liverpool FC crowned.
City finished the PL ten points ahead of rivals Manchester United which suffered a 2-1 defeat against Leicester City on Tuesday, the Red Devils had to win in order to prevent Man City from celebrating the title ownership.
City’s win didn’t come with surprises after the UK giants maintained a clear distance with this season’s victory.
With thirty-five match played, twenty-five wins and five losses Man City stood at eighty points above the Premier League log.
After Tuesday’s defeat, the Red Devils stand on the second place with Seventy points, Leicester City on third with 66 points, Chelsea on the fourth place with 64 points, Liverpool at sixth spot with 57 points after 34 games and Arsenal is nowhere to be found in the top eight.
While City’s win adds weight to Mr Guardiola’s achievements it also means greatness to the Brazilian national Fernandinho who secured the captain belt after the depart of David Silva. Fernandinho has led the club with clear distinctions creating a victorious campaign throughout almost every English cup.
“As a captain, this is a really special moment I think the sensation is very nice. To be Premier League Champions is something really special, I’m so happy and feel lucky to have enjoyed this moment,” said Fernandinho.
“I felt relieved and I’m incredibly happy for many people. This is a massive achievement for the massive contender’s we had in this difficult lockdown situation so I’m very glad.
“The players have been consistent every day because the league is every day, in knockout cups or games and other matches we played. I think our possibilities toward the PL started on 19 December where we won until the 7 of March where we lost against United so since then we won absolutely every game and that led us to this position,” said Guardiola.
