NEWCASTLE: United paid the Italian club £55 million (about R1,3 billion) during the summer transfer.
Newcastle United Football Club is reportedly contemplating filing a lawsuit against Serie A club AC Milan over Sandro Tonali’s impending long-term football ban, reports Corriere dello Sport, an Italian publication.
The Magpies are said to be unhappy that they have paid Milan big money for the player who is facing a long football ban. As a result, he will not be available for the rest of the season. United paid the Italian club £55 million (about R1,3 billion) during the summer transfer.
The player has made 12 appearances for the English Premier League (EPL) club. The buyer’s remorse might be the reason the Magpies are considering to take Milan to task.
According to reports, Tonali is likely to be given a 10-month ban. As part of his punishment, according to the report, he will undergo therapy. Moreover, he will take part in anti-gambling initiatives.
The player, who will be allowed to resume playing in August 2024, is battling a gambling addiction, revealed his agent.
On Wednesday, 25 October, Tonali possibly played his last match for United this season in the UEFA Champions League. In the match that United lost by 1-0 against Borussia Dortmund, a German side, he came on as a second-half substitute, much to a warm reception by the home fans in what could be understood as bidding him goodbye until August 2024.
