JOHANNESBURG: His daughter Zanoxolo Mathunjwa has announced the sad news of his passing on Twitter early Tuesday morning.
Legendary actor and musician Macdonald Ndodana Mathunjwa (72), best known as Mac, passed away in the early hours of Monday morning, May the 31st.
His daughter Zanoxolo Mathunjwa has announced the sad news of his passing on Twitter early Tuesday morning.
“RIP daddy, #hearbroken. MacDonald Ndodana Mathunjwa passed away today,” she tweeted.
It’s reported that he died from Covid-19-related complications.
The talented actor has portrayed many roles on television, including acting in Generations, Khululeka, Soul City, Home Affairs and Intsika.
He also composed for many local groups, and created the theme song for ‘Stokvel’, amongst other achievements.
Since the news of his passing, tributes and heartfelt messages of condolences have been pouring in for the legendary.
These included Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Mbali Hlophe.
Offering her condolences, MEC Hlophe said “uBab Mathunjwa has been an epitome of acting excellence and was very authentic in the roles he played, whether it was on television or theatre. The department, through the Gauteng Film Commission, was honoured to have worked with him in producing a South African short film, Uzozwa Ngami.”
“On behalf of the people of Gauteng, we want to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Mathunjwa family, friends and the entire performing arts industry,” Hlophe said.
Hlophe said, she has learned with shock and sadness of the passing of acting giant.
