DURBAN: Two prison warders have been attacked in Westville Prison, Durban on Tuesday morning.
The department has come out strong to condemn the incident that took place in Westville Prison, Durban on Tuesday morning. In a statement issued by the Department of Correctional Services, it says “strong action to be meted out on attack on correctional officials.”
A picture circulating on social media shows that a prison warder attacked with blood all over his place. This is believed to have happened on Tuesday inside the prison.
“An attack on two officials at Durban Correctional Centre has been thwarted.
“The two correctional officials were stabbed this morning by remand detainees during unlock,” it says.

The department has called this incident opportunistic where two warders have been attacked.
“This incident is opportunistic, and the Department will not tolerate such acts,” the statement said.
This incident comes after former South African president, Mr Jacob Zuma’s supporters which then escalated to thousands of looters and violent protests across KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
In Kwazulu-Natal, Premier Sihle Zikalala has confirmed 26 people have been killed in widespread looting in that province.
He said 187 others have been arrested since the violence began at the weekend, initially calling for Mr Zuma to be release from prison.
Mr Zikakala has given an update on the province’s response to the latest developments.
