Abu Dhabi: The renowned South African coach had joined the Emirati club in June 2023
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Professional League outfit, Al Wahda Football Club, terminated Pitso Mosimane’s contract and replaced him with a Dutchman, Arno Buitenweg.
The renowned South African coach joined the Emirati club in June 2023, a couple of days after he had unceremoniously parted ways with Al Ahly Saudi Arabia. Incidentally, he had guided Al Ahly Saudi Arabia back to the Saudi Professional League (SPL) from a second division.
In his short-lived stint – of 10 matches – in the Gulf club, the former Bafana Bafana coach won six matches and lost four.
His agency MT Sports Marketing and Management, released a statement that, in part, reads thus: “Coach Pitso Mosimane would like to thank Al Wahda Football Club, the board, the players, staff and supporters for their warm welcome and support, since joining the club earlier this year and wish them well for the remainder of the season.”
The Kagiso-born coach has had a rough couple of weeks in the UAE. A week ago, he had been admitted to a hospital in Abu Dhabi for what Al Wahda reported to be shortness of breath. As his health has improved and he is back on his feet again, it would be interesting to know his next career move.
A coach of his calibre does not stay for a long time in the market, as his swift move from Al Ahly Saudi to Al Wahda has proven. Time will tell if Jingles, as he is affectionately known, seeks to ply his trade in Europe.
Previously, he expressed his desire to ply his trade in the biggest leagues in the world. If not in Europe, there will be plenty of offers from the Arabic world and, of course, a keen interest in the DSTV Premiership.
