JOHANNESBURG: New reports indicate that Anele Tembe’s cellphone records and online history have been wiped clean.

Three months after Anele Tembe fell to her death from the 10th storey of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town, the investigation into her death has been reopened.

Earlier this month the National Prosecuting (NPA) returned Anele’s case docket to the police, calling for further investigations. Circumstances around Anele’s death were initially ruled as an accident, with her father speaking out at her funeral adamant his daughter did not commit suicide.

According to Sunday World, Anele Tembe’s cellphone records was deleted, including social media activity. There are reports of insults Anele had made about DJ Zinhle, the mother of her fiancé AKA’s daughter, the day before her death. These comments and posts were all deleted before Anele’s phone was handed to her family.

When asked if he knew the password to her phone, AKA said he didn’t because Anele kept it secret. Her family were also unaware of what her passcode was so how her phone was wiped is uncertain.

AKA was ruled out as a suspect in his fiancé’s death and gave a tell-all interview with former eNCA journalist Thembekile Mrototo. A new investigation was then ordered due to the unnatural cause of death.

The report indicates that Anele’s family will apply for Section 205 of the Criminal Procedure Act to obtain records from her Apple phone, including text messages and e-mails she received and sent to close contacts.
