Nigerian and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has turned down Saudi Arabian money to continue his stay with Serie A champions, Napoli, during a summer transfer market. The forward made this revelation in John Obi-Mikel’s podcast called The Obi One Podcast.

Osimhen revealed that Saudi Professional League (SPL) outfit Al Hilal made one huge offer after the other for his service in a concerted attempt to lure him away from Italy.

“It was crazy…the more I said no, the more they increased their financial proposal again and again. It is literally like: wow. It was going to change my life and they never gave up. But I said no guys I am staying,” said Osimhen.

The forward helped Napoli to end a long-league title drought. The club had endured a 33-year wait to win its first league title since 1990.

In a 2022/23 season, the prolific Nigerian scored 26 goals in 30 matches, thus earning himself many admirers as far as the SPL. The summer transfer market had been dominated by big-profile moves from Europe to the SPL. The likes of Karim Benzema, N’golo Kante, Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane, Riyad Mahrez and Roberto Firmino sailed to the Gulf Region to join various SPL clubs.

The Nigerian forward went against the grain as the frenzy of Saudi Arabia swept all over Europe. He stayed put with Napoli, who are currently on the fourth position in the Serie A. In the 2023/24 season, Osimhen has scored six goals across competitions for Napoli.

With reports that Manchester United and Chelsea FC are also his huge admirers, it remains to be seen as to whether the Nigerian forward could also resist offers from the English Premier League (EPL) or not.
