JOHANNESBURG: In his 36-men preliminary squad announced last week, Broos had selected three Kaizer Chiefs players.
Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has named his final squad of 23 players who will play two international friendlies against Namibia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) next month.
He will use the two international friendly matches to prepare the team for next year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
In his 36-men preliminary squad announced last week, Broos had selected three Kaizer Chiefs players: Sfiso Hlanti, Pule Mmodi and Given Msimango. However, in his final squad. he omitted them.
“Chiefs I am very sorry but now for the moment there’s no player who deserves to be a Bafana player,” said the outspoken Belgian, explaining why he did not include Chiefs’ players in the final squad.
As has been the case in recent years, Mamelodi Sundowns players dominate the squad with seven players, followed by Orlando Pirates with five players.
A notable returnee to the Bafana Bafana squad is France-based forward Lebohang Mothiba, who last played for the national team in 2019 due to injuries. He has now managed to work his way back into the Bafana Bafana fold.
