MANCHESTER: Their form across all competitions has been flat and uninspiring.
Manchester United surrendered a two-goal lead and went down 4-3 against FC Copenhagen in a UEFA Champions League encounter at the Parken Stadium, Denmark.
The loss has placed them at the bottom of Group A. Consequently, having collected only three points out of a possible 12, their chances of making it to the last 16 for United are very slim with two matches to go.
The Red Devils squandered what would have been Rasmus Hojlund’s sweet homecoming as the Danish forward scored a first-half brace that was cancelled by his former club. Man United failed to close out the first half, conceding two goals in first-half stoppage time.
In the second half, the visitors retook the lead after captain Bruno Fernandes converted a controversial video assistant referee (VAR) awarded a penalty, making it 3-2 to United. The ghost of the second half haunted the Red Devils again after they surrendered yet another lead late in the match, leading to the hosts’ equaliser with seven minutes to go.
Adding insult to injury, Copenhagen’s winner came three minutes before the final whistle. Thus, it ended 4-3 in Denmark. This marked a special victory for the Danes, who are now second placed with four points, one point better than the English Premier League (EPL) club.
The German champions Bayern Munich, who have run a perfect Champions League campaign thus far, winning four out of four matches, top Group A.
Things are looking bad at Old Trafford, as Erik Ten Hag is failing to turn fortunes around. Their form across all competitions has been flat and uninspiring. Conceding goals left, right and centre, they lie eighth in the EPL.
Thus far, United have conceded 30 goals in all competitions. Their leaking defence has cost them so many matches and it looks like Ten Hag has run out of ideas.
