JOHANNESBURG: Mr Malema set the record straight at a briefing held at the EFF headquarters in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has poured cold water on claims of divisions between him and the party’s Deputy President Floyd Shivambu.
This comes after reports that Mr Malema’s utterances at the party’s gala dinner – where he warned those conspiring against him – were aimed at Mr Shivambu. He further told Mr Shivambu that conspiring against him would be a declaration of war, saying he had never lost a political contest.
While Mr Malema has urged Mr Shivambu to be honest and transparent with him, he insisted that there would never be power disputes between the two.
He said that the EFF was not the kind of organisation to fight over leadership roles and further dismissed claims suggesting Mr Shivambu planned to contest him for the party’s presidency. The dinner was held in the lead-up to the party’s 10th-anniversary celebrations at FNB Stadium.
Mr Malema set the record straight at a briefing held at the EFF headquarters in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
“In the past ten years, there has never been anything that suggests me and Floyd have got fundamental differences. Nothing, we disagree on approach. This way, that way and that we can fight and even think of not speaking with each other with Floyd. No, no … so I don’t know, you have to slaughter cows for that fight to happen, it will never happen,” adds Mr Malema.
Mr Malema said that the two leaders, whose friendship dates back to their days in the ANC Youth League, had no plans of conspiring against one another.
“No, shame. You will have to slaughter cows for that fight to happen. It will never happen, that is what the enemy is wishing,” he said.
But loyalty between the party’s leaders will be tested at the EFF’s elective conference next year.
