DURBAN: EFF are prepared to file a complaint with IEC after violent clash between EFF and ANC supporters in KwaDambuza.
Violence ensued at a Pietermaritzburg, KwaDambuza ward vote registration venue on Sunday afternoon as Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema had to force his way in.
Mr Malema had to force his way into the registration venue after supporters of the African National Congress (ANC) blocked his convoy vehicles from entering the premises.
Surfacing videos on social media show it was all good as EFF and ANC supporters campaigned well at the registration venue until EFF leader Mr Malema arrived and scuffles ensued.
Briefing the media, Mr Malema said the ANC must be disqualified from contesting elections in that ward as they will be taking the matter to the Independent Electoral Committee (IEC).
“Who said there should be no go areas? There can’t be. There will never be a place where there’s a no go area, we go everywhere and there’s no one who’s going to block us,” said Mr Malema in the interview.
“We campaign everywhere, the ANC campaigns everywhere, we never stopped them. We are going to complain definitely! This is unacceptable. The ANC must be disqualified particularly in this ward for conducting themselves in the manner that they did,” he said.
