0 JOHANNESBURG: Mbalula has ruled out any meeting with the party’s expelled former Secretary General, Mr Ace Magashule.
ANC secretary general, Mr Fikile Mbalula has lashed out at his predecessor Mr Ace Magashule for failing to rein in his unruly Free State supporters, who have been burning party T-shirts in protest of his expulsion.
So angry is Mr Mbalula that he has cancelled his meeting with Mr Magashule, endorsed by ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa, that was meant to take place on Tuesday evening.
He was speaking to the media in Mr Magashule’s hometown of Parys. Some people believed to be Mr Magashule’s supporters, were seen burning ANC T-shirts this week.
A water pump station in the area was bombed recently. There have been claims that people in the area are being intimidated. Mr Mbalula said Mr Magashule was given an opportunity to appeal his expulsion from the ANC, but he refused.
Mr Mbalula said they cannot allow the ongoing destruction of public property and intimidation of the people of Parys by suspected supporters of expelled Mr Magashule.
It is understood that Mr Magashule has met with some of the former ANC leaders including former president Mr Thabo Mbeki and Mr Jacob Zuma. He was also said to have met with the former deputy president, Mr Kgalema Motlanthe.
He was, according to those around him, meeting the former ANC leaders to get guidance on his next political move.
It was not immediately clear how those meetings unfolded. His supporters, especially in the Free State, have shown unhappiness with his expulsion and have threatened that the move to expel him was likely to kill the ANC.
