JOHANNESBURG: Top coaches in the world of football are always on the move according to Pitso Mosimane.
Pitso Mosimane, who has been unveiled by Al Wahda Football Club as its new head coach, is bracing himself for yet another challenge abroad. Based in Abu Dhabi, the club plays in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Professional League.
The three-time Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League winning coach will be joined by his trusted generals: Maahier Davids as an assistant coach, Kabelo Rangoaga as a conditioning coach, Musi Matlaba as an analyst, Kyle Solomon as an analyst and Hamad Alyami as a goalkeeper coach.
In a statement released following his appointment, the 58-year-old said he is honoured to join the club and that he was impressed by its vision.
The past few days have been eventful for Mosimane, who has launched Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools (PMSS), a programme whose mission is to ‘create the player of tomorrow,’ on Saturday, the same day that Al Wahda announced his appointment.
He had just terminated his contract with Al-Ahli Saudi, a club he guided from the Saudi First Division League back to the Saudi Professional League (SPL).
Coaching abroad can be cold and there is a lot of turbulence, said Jingle, as Mosimane is affectionately known, speaking to the media at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, where he launched PMSS.
The former Bafana Bafana coach went further to mention that top coaches in the world of football are always on the move, citing the likes of Jose Mourinho (AS Roma), Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool) and Thomas Tuchel (Bayern Munich).
Al Wahda is Jingles’ fifth professional club. This indicates that he himself has been on the move, albeit he had successful stints at his former clubs: SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns (South African clubs), Al Ahly SC (Egypt), and Al Ahly Saudi (Saudi Arabia).
The highly sought-after South African coach, who won a trophy at every club he has coached, would be tasked with bringing glory days back at the Abu Dhabi club, which last tasted a league title in a 2009/10 season and a knockout cup in a 2017/18 season.
